Crib Point Community Garden
About the Group
✨
Crib Point Community Garden, established in 2006 on the Mornington Peninsula, is a thriving sustainable and organic garden located behind the Crib Point Community House. The garden transformed a former school playground with compacted soil into a productive edible food forest. It features large communal garden beds, a gazebo, orchard, chickens, a hot house, potting area, garden shed, and large compost bays. The garden operates mainly on a communal basis, where members share the produce they harvest. Individual plots are also available for a small fee.Committed to organic principles, the garden avoids harmful sprays and uses locally milled timber for structures. Water conservation is supported by two large water tanks linked to the community house roof. The group meets regularly for communal gardening and shared lunches, providing opportunities to learn about growing, harvesting, composting, and cooking fresh, organic food. Surplus produce supports the local community by being sold or donated. Crib Point Community Garden fosters social connection, sustainability, and food education in this small seaside town known otherwise for its naval base, HMAS Cerberus. New members are warmly welcomed to join this friendly, active community group.
