Active Locals is Australia’s first community-based fitness and activity platform built around connection, belonging, and shared experiences.
We help people discover local activities, meet new people, and build healthier physical and mental wellbeing together through groups, events, and communities built around shared interests.
Active Locals makes it easier to stay active, social, and connected with people nearby, helping turn healthy habits into something more enjoyable, motivating, and sustainable.

One of the biggest trends on Active Locals is that people are increasingly looking for regular communities and recurring activities, not just one-off events.

We need more front-runners like you helping make local communities healthier, more social, and more connected. It can be an incredibly rewarding experience, supporting people’s physical and mental wellbeing through shared activities.
For others, organising can also become a great side hustle or business opportunity, whether you’re a personal trainer, coach, instructor, community leader, or an existing business looking to grow attendance and reach new customers.
Yes. Active Locals is free to download and use, and many groups and events are completely free to join.
Some organisers may also host paid classes, workshops, or experiences. Any pricing is always shown clearly before booking.

Active Locals is designed to help people connect through trusted local communities and activities. We support safety through organiser approvals, verified groups, community guidelines, attendee reviews, event details, and moderation tools for organisers and our community team.
That said, events take place in the real world, so we always encourage members to use personal judgement and leave any situation that feels unsafe or uncomfortable.
Absolutely. Many people join Active Locals events on their own to meet new people, try something new, and build healthier habits.
Great organisers create welcoming experiences where people feel comfortable participating, regardless of experience level or whether they arrive solo.
That said, activities are often even more enjoyable together, so why not invite a friend and share the experience?
Not at all. Active Locals includes activities for different fitness levels, abilities, and experience levels.
Many events are beginner-friendly and designed to help people feel comfortable getting started at their own pace.

Open a group’s detail page and tap Join Group. Once joined, you’ll immediately become a member of the group and start seeing their events and updates in the app.
Organisers may also receive a notification when new members join. We’re currently introducing group chat functionality, which will automatically add members into the group conversation to help people connect, ask questions, and plan activities together.
Once you join a group, you become part of that community immediately. You’ll be able to:
As messaging features roll out, group members will also be added to shared group chats and event conversations.
Yes. You can join as many groups as you like. Joining groups is free and effortless, and it’s a great way to discover more activities, meet people, and stay active across different interests and communities.
Open the group page, access the menu or settings options, and select Leave Group. You’ll see a confirmation before leaving.
Once removed, you’ll no longer receive notifications or updates from that group. Organisers and other members are not notified when someone leaves. Future group chat features will also remove you from group conversations automatically.

At the moment, there are no invite-only or approval-based private groups, although organisers can still remove or block members when needed.
Organisers can send event updates to attendees from the event page. These messages appear in the event details and may also be sent as push notifications. This is currently a one-way broadcast for event updates, not a group chat or direct messaging feature.
Coming soon: expanded communication features across Active Locals, including group chat, event conversations, and direct messaging tools to help groups stay connected before, during, and between events.
Yes. You can share groups directly from the group page using the app’s share functionality. This makes it easy to invite friends, family, or teammates to join activities together.
Open the event details page and tap Join Event. For free events, your place is confirmed immediately. For paid events, you’ll see the pricing and payment details first, then complete checkout securely through Stripe.
Many events are beginner-friendly, although suitability can vary depending on the organiser and activity type.
Each event includes an intensity level to help you decide if it’s right for you. For example, events may be labelled:
Many events are beginner-friendly, but it depends on the organiser and the activity. Before joining, check the event description, What to expect, intensity level, and any suitability or accessibility tags.
Absolutely. Many people join Active Locals events on their own to meet new people, try something new, and build healthier habits.
Great organisers create welcoming experiences where people feel comfortable participating, regardless of experience level or whether they arrive solo.
That said, doing things together is often more fun and can help people feel even more comfortable and confident, especially when trying a new activity for the first time. Why not invite a friend and share the experience together?
Many events welcome friends and new attendees, however each attendee currently needs their own Active Locals account and booking where required. You can easily share events with friends directly from the app.
This helps organisers manage attendance, communication, and event safety more effectively.
This depends on the event. Check the event description and the What to Expect section carefully before attending.
Organisers may also send event updates or reminders through the app, so we recommend enabling push notifications to avoid missing important information.
We’re also introducing direct messaging features soon, allowing attendees to contact organisers more easily with questions before events.
Yes. Event pages display attendee counts and attendee first names only.
Yes. Organisers can send event updates and broadcast messages directly to attendees through the event page.

Some free events support waitlists when they reach capacity. Paid event waitlists are more limited at the moment, but we’re continuing to improve waitlist and attendee management features over time.
Yes. Organisers can manage attendance and check attendees in during events. This helps organisers track participation and manage event capacity more effectively.
Yes. After joining an event, you’ll have the option to add it directly to your calendar, including the event time, location, and other important details.

Important changes may also trigger notifications if you have notifications enabled.
Yes. You can join events directly from the event page without manually joining the group first.
However, joining the group is recommended so you can stay updated on future events and community activity.
Event pages include details such as:
These details are designed to help you decide whether the activity matches your fitness level, experience, and preferences before joining.
For paid events, you’ll select a ticket or payment option before completing your booking. Payments are processed securely through Stripe, and your attendance is confirmed once payment succeeds.
Active Locals supports secure card payments as well as digital wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay where available.
Yes. Payments are securely processed by Stripe, one of the world’s leading payment providers. Active Locals does not store your card details.
No. Attendees do not need a Stripe account. Stripe is only used behind the scenes to securely process payments.
Stripe accounts are only required for organisers receiving payouts from paid events.
Paid bookings include a small $1 platform or booking fee in addition to the ticket price. This helps support payment processing, platform operations, and community features inside Active Locals.
Any applicable fees are clearly shown before checkout.
Not currently. Event bookings are currently linked to the individual attendee’s account, so each person attending should book using their own Active Locals account.
We may expand group and multi-ticket booking options in the future.
Not at the moment. Tickets are currently tied to the logged-in user’s attendance and profile.
Friends or family members should create their own Active Locals account and book separately.
Ticket types are the different booking or access options organisers can offer for an event.
These may include:
Some organisers also use ticket types to offer optional inclusions, such as equipment hire, meals, or premium experiences.
Available ticket types and inclusions are always shown during booking.
Yes. After booking, your attendance is confirmed in the app and the event will appear in your upcoming events.
For paid events, you’ll also see a payment summary and booking details inside the app.
If payment fails, your booking will not be confirmed. You can simply retry the payment process or try another payment method.
You’re only officially booked into a paid event once payment has been successfully completed.
Yes. You can cancel your attendance from the event or ticket details screen at any time.
Refund eligibility depends on when you cancel:
If you cancel more than 24 hours before the event, eligible refunds are processed automatically through Stripe.
If you experienced an issue with the event, you can also submit a refund request within 14 days after the event ends. Refund requests are reviewed by the Active Locals community team.
If an organiser cancels an event, attendees will generally receive a refund for the ticket purchase in line with Active Locals’ cancellation policy.
Refunds are processed back to the original payment method through Stripe.
You can still cancel your attendance so the organiser knows you’re no longer coming, however refunds are not available within 24 hours of the event start time.
Yes. Refund requests can be submitted within 14 days after the event if there was an issue with the experience.
Common reasons may include:
All requests are reviewed by the Active Locals community team.
Once processed, refunds typically appear back on your original payment method within 5–10 business days, depending on your bank.
No. Booking and platform fees are non-refundable, even when the ticket price itself is refunded.
If an organiser cancels an event due to weather or unsafe conditions, eligible refunds will generally be processed automatically.
If an event still goes ahead but weather significantly impacts the experience, you can submit a refund request for review.
Automatic refunds more than 24 hours before the event do not require approval.
Post-event refund requests are reviewed by the Active Locals community team, who may also work with the organiser to better understand the situation before making a decision.
Organisers can update event dates, times, and locations if plans change.
If the updated event no longer works for you, you may be able to cancel or request a refund depending on the timing and circumstances.
After attending an event, you may be asked to leave a simple 1–5 star rating based on your experience. These ratings help other members understand the quality of events and communities on Active Locals.
Ratings contribute to the overall rating shown on a group or organiser profile.
At the moment, organisers only see overall ratings and review averages rather than detailed information about individual reviewers.
Ratings generally cannot be edited or removed once submitted. However, if you believe a rating or review activity is abusive, fraudulent, or inappropriate, you can contact the Active Locals community team via admin@activelocals.com.au.

An organiser is someone who creates and manages groups or events on Active Locals. Organisers help bring communities together by hosting activities, communicating with members, and creating welcoming experiences.
Yes. Anyone with an Active Locals account can create a group and start building a community around an activity or interest.
Whether you’re hosting fitness sessions, hobby meetups, social gatherings, or community activities, Active Locals is designed to help organisers bring people together and grow local communities.
Many organisers simply start because they want to meet new people and stay active together.
All groups are reviewed by our community team before becoming publicly discoverable in the app. This helps us maintain a safe, high-quality experience for members and support organisers in building successful communities.
Our team may occasionally reach out with feedback, support, or suggestions to help improve your group setup and visibility.
We also offer exciting sponsorship and promotion opportunities for selected organisers, including social media features and community marketing support.
If you’d like support growing your group, contact our community team via admin@activelocals.com.au.
A group is an ongoing community around a shared activity or interest, while an event is a specific session or meetup hosted by that group.
For example:
Groups help members stay connected between events and receive notifications about future activities.
You can host a wide range of local activities, including fitness, wellness, sports, outdoor adventures, hobby groups, social meetups, workshops, and community events.
The best events are welcoming, inclusive, and encourage people to connect through shared experiences.
Yes. All groups and events must follow Active Locals’ community guidelines and local laws. Unsafe, illegal, discriminatory, or misleading activities are not allowed and may be removed from the platform.
If you’re unsure whether an activity is suitable, contact our community team via admin@activelocals.com.au.
Open the Manage section in the app to view and manage your groups. From there, you can:
Open your group and select Edit Group or Group Info. You can update your group name, description, activities, location, guidelines, photos, and other details at any time.
Changes are usually published immediately so your groups and your events stays up to date. In some cases, updates may also go through a short review process after publishing to help maintain a safe, welcoming, and high-quality experience across Active Locals.
If any changes require clarification or updates, the Active Locals community team may reach out to you directly.
Members currently join groups directly without requiring organiser approval.
Organisers can remove or block members if needed to help maintain a safe and respectful community environment.
If you need support handling member issues, contact our community team via admin@activelocals.com.au.
You can currently send event updates and important information to attendees directly from the event page. These messages appear within the event details and may also be sent as push notifications.
At the moment, this is primarily a one-way organiser broadcast feature rather than a full chat or direct messaging experience.
Coming soon: expanded in-app communication features across Active Locals, including group chat, event conversations, and direct messaging to help organisers stay connected with their communities before, during, and between events.
Each group has one main organiser/admin who owns the group. You can also add co-organisers to help manage the community.
Co-organisers can help with selected group management tasks, such as supporting members and helping manage group activity, but their permissions may be more limited than the main organiser/admin. Some actions may still need to be done by the group owner or the person who created the event.
You can add co-organisers from the group’s member list in the group management area.
The best way to grow your group is to host consistent, welcoming events and create a strong sense of community.
We recommend:
Verified, active groups with regular events are also more likely to be featured and discovered across the app.
If you’d like support growing your community, sponsorship opportunities, or social media promotion, contact our community team via admin@activelocals.com.au.
Groups help you build an ongoing community around your activities, rather than starting from scratch every time you host an event. Members can join your group, stay connected between events, and receive notifications when you publish new events.
Active Locals supports standalone events for organisers who want to host one-off activities without managing an ongoing group or community.
That said, groups remain the best way to build a long-term community and grow repeat attendance over time.
Clear communication and a welcoming experience go a long way. Use a clear title and photo, explain what attendees should expect, keep members updated if plans change, and make newcomers feel comfortable when they arrive.
We’re also introducing additional organiser tools, including attendee check-in functionality, to help organisers manage events more smoothly.
The more detail you provide, the easier it is for people to decide to attend. We recommend including:
Good event descriptions reduce questions and improve bookings.
Recurring events let you create a repeating schedule, such as weekly runs, monthly meetups, or regular fitness sessions, without needing to create a new event each time.
For example:
Members can book individual sessions, while organisers can manage the recurring series from one place.
A one-off event happens once on a specific date, while a recurring event repeats automatically on an ongoing schedule. Recurring events are a great way to build consistency, grow repeat attendance, and create stronger long-term communities.
Yes. Go to your event list and click the 3 dots or the Manage button, then select Duplicate. Most event details will be pre-filled for you, so you only need to update the new event’s date and time before publishing.
The ability to automatically reuse your existing event photos is coming soon.
Yes. You can set a maximum attendee capacity for your event, and you can also limit the quantity available for specific ticket types if needed.
Yes. You can create multiple ticket options for the same event, such as free tickets, standard tickets, early bird pricing, or season passes for recurring events. Organisers can also see which ticket type each attendee has purchased.
We’re continuing to improve ticketing features and organiser tools over time.
Attendees can view your event details, group profile, and any website or contact information you include in the listing.
Coming soon: expanded in-app communication features across Active Locals, including group chat, event conversations, and direct messaging to help organisers stay connected with their communities before, during, and between events.
Yes. Organisers can communicate with attendees through event messages inside Active Locals. These messages are shared as updates on the event page for a specific event or occurrence.
This is ideal for:
Attendees can view these messages on the event screen and may also receive a push notification if notifications are enabled.
At the moment, event messaging is a one-way broadcast feature rather than a private chat conversation.
You can edit your event details at any time to update the date, time, or location. If the event is no longer running, organisers can cancel the event from the manage event screen. We recommend communicating changes to attendees as early as possible.
When someone books a paid event on Active Locals, payment is processed securely through Stripe using card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. Attendees pay the ticket price plus a small booking fee of $1, while the organiser fees of 4% are deducted from your payout automatically. You don’t need to handle payments or card details yourself.
To receive payouts, you’ll need to connect and verify a Stripe account through Active Locals. Once your event has finished and the payout window has passed, your earnings are transferred to your Stripe account and then paid out to your bank account based on the Stripe payout schedule.
Payouts are typically processed around 48 hours after your event ends. This short holding period helps manage refunds and disputes. Once released, funds are transferred to your connected Stripe account and paid out automatically according to your Stripe payout schedule, which is currently set to daily payouts.
Depending on your bank, it may still take 1–3 business days for the money to appear in your account.
Active Locals uses Stripe to securely process ticket payments and send payouts to organisers. Connecting Stripe allows you to sell paid tickets, receive payouts to your bank account, and handle refunds securely.
You can still create and run free events without Stripe, but paid ticketing requires a connected and verified Stripe account.
Connecting Stripe only takes a few minutes.
Once Stripe approves your account, paid ticketing and payouts will automatically become available.
Stripe’s identity verification process is a standard requirement across most payment platforms and is generally driven by Australian AML/CTF (Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing) regulations.
Because of this, Stripe requires a government-issued ID (such as a driver’s licence or passport) to verify the identity of the individual or business representative associated with the account.
As this is part of Stripe’s onboarding and compliance process, we’re unable to override or bypass these checks.
Stripe requires valid government-issued photo identification, including:
Make sure your ID is valid, readable, and matches the information entered during onboarding
For paid events, Active Locals charges a small platform fee of $1 to attendees at checkout, plus an organiser fee of 4% deducted from ticket sales. Current fees are shown in the app when creating paid events and during checkout.
Refund eligibility depends on when the attendee cancels.
If a refund is approved after funds have already been paid out, Stripe may deduct the refunded amount from your future payouts or available Stripe balance.
If you cancel an event, attendees will generally receive a full refund for their ticket purchase in line with Active Locals’ cancellation policy. Refunds are managed by the platform and processed back to the attendee’s original payment method.
Not yet. Active Locals does not currently support self-serve promo or discount codes for standard event tickets. However, organisers can still run free events and create different ticket types.
You can include your own cancellation or refund policy in your event description or ticket information. However, refund eligibility and processing are still governed by Active Locals’ platform rules and Stripe payment policies.
If you’re unsure how to structure your policy, contact our community team via admin@activelocals.com.au.
If you cancel an event, attendees will generally receive a refund for their ticket purchase in line with Active Locals’ cancellation policy. Refunds are processed through Stripe back to the attendee’s original payment method, and attendees may also receive cancellation notifications through the app.
For recurring events, organisers can cancel a single occurrence or the full series.
If you need help managing cancellations or communicating with attendees, contact our community team via admin@activelocals.com.au.
Eligible refunds are processed securely through Stripe and returned to the attendee’s original payment method. Depending on the attendee’s bank, refunds may take approximately 5–10 business days to appear.
Some refunds are processed automatically, while others may require review by the Active Locals community team before approval.
Attendees are generally refunded the ticket price only. Booking and platform fees are typically non-refundable.
If a refund is approved after funds have already been paid out to an organiser, Stripe may deduct the refunded amount from future payouts or the organiser’s available Stripe balance.
If you have questions about refunds, payout reversals, or special circumstances, contact the Active Locals team at admin@activelocals.com.au.
Organisers are responsible for creating safe, respectful, and welcoming experiences for their communities. This includes providing accurate event information, communicating clearly with attendees, and following local laws, venue requirements, and Active Locals community guidelines.
Great organisers help people feel comfortable, included, and connected. Clear communication, reliability, and creating a positive experience for both new and returning members goes a long way in building a strong and trusted community.
If someone behaves in a way that makes others feel unsafe or uncomfortable, you should address it appropriately and, if needed, ask them to leave the event or group.
You can report safety concerns or inappropriate behaviour by contacting our support team directly at admin@activelocals.com.au.
After attending an event, attendees are asked to leave a 5-star rating. Your overall rating is calculated across your hosted events and displayed on your group page. At the moment, written reviews are not supported.
Yes. We regularly feature events, organisers, and inspiring local communities across our social channels, campaigns, and community communications.
If you have great photos, a unique story, or are creating positive community impact, we’d love to hear from you.
In some cases, we also support organisers and community initiatives through partnerships, sponsorships, or promotional opportunities.
If you’re interested in collaborating with Active Locals, contact us at admin@activelocals.com.au.
The best way to grow attendance is to create experiences people genuinely want to come back to. Successful organisers are usually consistent, welcoming, and community-focused.
