About the Group

A Heart Foundation Walking group aiming to make Australians more active and heart-healthy.

The Kangaroo Point Bridge in Brisbane is a landmark pedestrian and cyclist bridge connecting the Kangaroo Point peninsula with the Brisbane central business district. Officially opened in December 2024, it spans 460 meters as a cable-stayed structure with a distinctive single-mast design, making it one of the longest bridges of its kind worldwide. The bridge features dedicated paths for pedestrians and cyclists, shaded by solar panels and enhanced with green vegetation to suit Brisbane’s subtropical climate. It significantly cuts travel time between the eastern suburbs and the CBD by up to 15 minutes and reduces traffic congestion by encouraging active, green transport.More than a functional crossing, the bridge offers recreational opportunities including viewing platforms with panoramic views of the Brisbane skyline, Story Bridge, Kangaroo Point Cliffs, and City Botanic Gardens. It also hosts unique riverside dining venues—an elevated restaurant over the water and a café at the city landing—making it a vibrant social and transit hub. The project reflects a long-held vision for cross-river connectivity dating back over 150 years, realized through a collaboration of top architects, engineers, and the Brisbane City Council as part of a network of green bridges enhancing the city’s river experience. The Kangaroo Point Bridge symbolizes Brisbane's commitment to sustainability, community connection, and urban amenity.
