No Lights No Lycra
About the Group
✨
No Lights No Lycra in Newtown is a unique, weekly dance session held every Tuesday at St Stephen's Anglican Church, 189 Church St. It offers a welcoming space where people can dance freely in near total darkness without the pressure of being seen or judged. With no instructors, no set steps, and no bright lights, the focus is on personal expression, movement, and pure enjoyment to great music. This pitch-black environment allows participants to shed inhibitions and connect with their own rhythm alongside others in a supportive, anonymous setting.Originating from Melbourne in 2009, No Lights No Lycra has grown into a global movement, known for promoting physical activity, mental wellbeing, and social connection through fun, uninhibited dance parties. The Newtown sessions cost $15 and are run by local ambassadors to foster a sense of community. This inclusive experience is both a joyful workout and a therapeutic outlet, helping especially those who find typical dance or fitness classes intimidating to engage in active, stress-relieving movement.
