About the Event
Join us at Lyell Iffla Reserve in South Melbourne to compost, plant and maintain the community garden beds! Spend some time getting your hands dirty while meeting friendly locals, and take home a share of any produce we harvest.
What to expect
Meet at the raised garden beds in the park. Bring along gardening gloves, a trowel and garden snips if you have them, and a bag for taking home any fresh produce. Beginner gardeners are welcome and the working bee leader will allocate tasks and explain how to do them. This might involve weeding, cutting up green waste, digging the soil, sowing seeds, watering and harvesting. Dress for the weather and be prepared to get a bit dirty!
South Melbourne Sustainability Group
We are an enthusiastic group of volunteers passionate about growing food and composting waste at four community garden sites in South Melbourne and surrounds.
We host friendly working bees twice a month for composting, planting and garden maintenance while chatting and spending time with neighbours - all are welcome to come along! Bring along gloves, a trowel and garden snips if you have them.
Volunteers are also needed to water and check on the garden beds between working bees.
